Food loving fake police arrested in Kushalnagar

Kushalnagar: Police arrested a man for fooling the hoteliers by posing as police and filling his belly with tasty foods in various hotels. The fake policeman is identified as Pratap alias Kiran, resident of Chettalli, a bus cleaner by profession.

He used to visit the hotels in Kushalnagar and after having stomach full of food avoided paying bills and used say that he is a police and the staff from the police station will pay the bill later. It is said that after the arrest Pratap had told that he is not looting valuables from the people and was only trying to quench his hunger. A case has been filed at Kushalnagar police station.

Man who killed his father arrested

Kushalnagar: A man accused in his father’s murder was arrested by police here. The man was absconding after the incident.

The arrested person is Vishwanath, resident of Kabbinagadde in Rangasamudra. On Monday he in drunken state argued with his mother and in the process hit on the head of his father Basava (65) with wooden log. Basava died on the spot and Vishwanath went absconding.

Police commissioner Varthika Katiyar guided the operation to nab the accused and arrested him in Kushalnagar. Station inspector Anup Madappa, constables Chandru, Narayan Shetty and Joseph were present during the operation.

Accused in son’s murder case hangs himself

Madikeri: Man who went absconding after killing his son has ended his life by hanging himself. The deceased has been identified as Somashekar Nayak. He was interrogated by the police on November 17 in connection with the murder of his son Yashwanth. 

Yashwannth managed to give a slip from police custody but later his body was found hanging nearby his house in Chettukaya. Police and the magistrate Annapoorneshwari visited the spot. The body has been sent for post mortem.

Yashwanth son of Somashekar was missing since many months. Locals had suspected foul play behind his missing. An anonymous letter received by Yashwanth’s younger brother and a relative stated that Yshwanth was murdered. Police arrested Somashekar and interrogated him but he managed to escape from the police custody. It is said that Somashekar had earlier killed his wife too.

Foreigner dies of heart attack in Sidhapur

Sidhapur: A foreign tourist died due to massive cardiac arrest on Thursday November 20 in Sidhapur. The deceased has been identified as Richard Ivan Esterd (70) a citizen of England who came to India along with his wife and was staying in a resort in Sidhapur.

On Thursday morning he suffered a cardiac arrest and was immediately rushed to the hospital, but he breathed his last on the way.

Richard along with his wife Petricia Esterd had come to India on November 15 and on November 18 they reached Kodagu and were staying in a resort here since two days. After the post mortem in Sidhapur hospital the dead body was taken to Mysore to perform last rites. A case has been filed at Sidhapur police station.

Man falls from tree, dies

Sidhapur: Man lost his life after he slipped from a tree and fell on the ground in Karadigodu here.

The deceased man is identified as Ponnappa (40) resident of Karadigodu. Ponnappa was working as a daily wage worker. In the morning of Wednesday November 10 Ponnappa went to a nearby coffee plantation to cut a tree and slipped from the tree and fell on the ground. Although he was rushed to the hospital he died on the way.

The dead body was handed over to the family after post mortem in Sidhapur hospital. A case has been filed at Sidhapur police station.

Illegal sandalwood transportation: Four arrested

Madikeri: Forest department personnel have seized sandalwood worth Rs. 2 lakhs and arrested four persons at Kumbaladalu near here. It is said that the sandalwood from the plantation of Neravanda Muthappa in Kumbaladalu village was stolen few days ago. After investigating the matter police have arrested K. Ali, H.P Dinesh, Y.C Mani and H.B Puneeth.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Madikeri forest officer K. Rangaswamy by Muranadu division foreest officer A.P Achayya, P.G Raghav and others.

Sainik School Kodagu initiated ‘Swachh Kudige Drive’ as a part of Foundation Day and Children’s Day Celebrations

Kudige:  Sainik School Kodagu celebrated its eighth Foundation Day on 14 Nov 2014, Friday. Air Marshal K C Nanda Cariappa, PVSM, VM graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and he was accompanied by Mrs. Meena Cariappa.  Capt Ben H Berson introduced the chief guest to the august gathering. Mrs. Meena Cariappa gave a flying start to the celebrations by lighting a ceremonial lamp and gave away the prizes to the meritorious cadets who excelled in different competitions. Katari House received the prestigious ‘Cock House Trophy’ for the best performance for the academic year 2013-14.  

A special assembly was held in Dr. Radhakrishnan Hall. In his address Air Marshal K Cariappa brought out the role of discipline in cadets’ life. He also told the cadets to respect the authority and to have self respect. He congratulated the cadets and called them lucky to be here in Kodagu, a land of rich culture with a wide range of flora and fauna. He appreciated the efforts put in by the school for the all-round development of cadets. Later he interacted with cadets in Field Marshal Cariappa Hall. Mrs. Meena Cariappa planted a sapling of Kodagu Orange to boost ‘Green Drive’ initiative of the school.

A cultural programme was organized where the budding cadets showcased their talents. Earlier in the morning, the school carried out a ‘Swachh Kudige’ drive in and around Kudige to sensitise the public on the importance of keeping the surroundings clean. Sri M Gopalayya, CEO of Karnataka Milk Fedaration, inaugurated the drive with other dignitaries who shared the dais, Mr. Rajarao, Member ZP, Sri Anup Madappa, Sub Inspector of Police, Kushalnagar, Dr. Ravichandra, Medical Officer, PHC, Kudige, Kudumagalore Gram Panchayat members with their president Sri TK Viswanath, Village Panchayat members of Kudige with their chairman Sri Manu Nanjunda joined hands together for the campaign. Sri M Murali, Branch Manager Karnataka Bank, Sri Ravishankar, Branch Manager Canara Bank, Sri Muddappa HS, President Manjunath Education Trust were among others who took part. Cadets of Sainik School along with students of Morarji and Sports School joined the campaign in groups and carried out the cleaning campaign in a well organised and meticulous manner in different locations of Kudige.

 Swachh Kudige drive is a continued step of ‘GO GREEN Drive’ to keep Kudige green and pollution free, the ongoing mission in the school. Major establishments of Kudige like Nandini Dairy, Sports & Morarji Schools, Canara Bank, Karnataka Bank, Manjuanth Education Trust joined their hands with the cadets and involved wholeheartedly in this DRIVE.  The school administration thanked all the civilians who joined in the ‘drive’ to make it a grand success.

Two arrested for murdering the youth in Parane

Madikeri: Rural police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder case of Dinesh  at Kirandadu village in Parane on November 4. The arrested are identified as Chottera A. Eerappa of Kunjilageri village and Derana Ayyappa of Bavali village. Another accused Biddanda Jeevan is still absconding.

The accused had shot dead Dinesh who had owned a shop in Parane. The scooter on which Dinesh was riding and his dead body were later found in a nearby coffee plantation. A complaint was lodged by deceased father and police started investigation.
On questioning the two suspects they revealed that the crime was committed on a trivial issue. They confessed that Biddanda Jeevan was trying to take on the ownership of the shop owned by Dinesh and hatched a plan to kill Dinesh.

 Eerappa and Ayyappa came to Kirandadu. They waited for Dinesh to arrive and shot at him. As first bullet was misfired they again tried and this time Dinesh was hurt and died on the spot. They then grabbed the gold chain from his neck, two mobile phones and dumped the body in the nearby plantation.  They later even participated during the last rites of Dinesh.  But police arrested the duo and had spread a net to nab the absconding accused.
