‘Blood component separation unit' inaugurated in Lady Goschen

Mangalore: Former Chief Minister of Karnataka M. Veerappa Moily stated that more and more involvement of private and public sector in health field is required. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘blood component separation unit', on the premises of Lady Goschen hospital, Mangalore, which is being operated by the Indian Red Cross Blood Bank which was set up by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited at a cost of Rs 1 crore. It is the fourth blood bank in the city to have the facility.
The private and public sector must contribute to the development of medical sector. I had urged the corporate organizations to pledge 2% of their income towards social development works when I was the MP. If this plan is being implemented effectively medical sector will develop as a business and the people will get health benefits from this, he said.
After inaugurating the women and children hospital premise with extra 60 beds in Lady Goschen State health minister U.T Khader said, government has the goal of building a state with healthy people. Work is on to inter connect all blood banks in the state which will help during emergency. The program was presided over by MLA J.R Lobo. MLA Moiddin Bava, district Commissioner A.B Ibrahim, state drug controller Raghuram Bhandary, KSAPS Raveendra G.S, former Muda President Tejomaya, President of Indian Red cross South Kanara division B. Prabhakar Shriyan, district President of Indian Red Cross Blood Bank Ronald Anil Fernandese, Chief Manager of BPCL Pradeep Iyyengar, Officer of MRPL Kishore Chandra, state President of Red Cross Dinesh were present.
