Police raid gambling spot: Three arrested

Moodabidre: Police raided a gambling spot in Kadubali in Porlottu in Puthige village on Friday January 2 and arrested three persons including an Ayyappa maladhari. Four persons managed to escape from the site.

The police have seized one Bolero jeep and three two wheelers.

The operation was conducted on confirmed information by inspector Anantapadmanabha. The arrested persons have been identified as Ranjith Kadambail, Jaya and Ravi, while Badruddin, Dileep from Surathkal and Ravi Poojary from Moodabidre managed to flee.

Earlier the gamblers had made Kadalakere as their playing spot, but as police started raiding the place the spot was shifted to Porlottu, it is learnt.  A case has been filed in Moodabidre police station.

Married woman goes missing

Moodabidre: A married woman went missing from Kadandale on Thursday January 1.

The missing woman has been identified as Anandi (23) wife of Harish Poojary of Kadandale. It is said that she had left her house to visit her mother’s house on Thursday. But she never reached the mother’s house nor returned to husband’s place. Panicked husband searched for her in the surroundings and enquired with the relatives. But as she was not traced anywhere, finally Harish lodged a missing complaint in Moodabidre police station on Saturday. Police have begun the search operation.

Youngster from Moodabidre dies in Goa road mishap

Moodabidre: Yougster from here died in a road mishap in Goa. Madhusudan Nayak (25), son of Sarvottam Nayak and Sharada Pai resident of Kallabettu near here met with a road accident in Goa on December 18. He sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to death in a private hospital in Goa.

Madhusudan was undergoing training at a shipping company in Goa. The accident took place when a car rammed into his bike. A seriously injured Madhusudan was admitted to hospital in Goa. After battling for life for 10 days, he breathed his last on Sunday night.

Madhusudan had rendered his services to Kallabettu Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti as its vice-president. He was also an active member of Moodbidri Mitravrinda.

His mortal remains are expected to be brought to Kallabettu soon.

Bomb threat to Alvas College: Security tightened

Moodabidre: As a bomb threat on Alvas college spread in twitter security has been increased in the college premise. On Monday evening man named Abdul Khader, had tweeted that a bomb will be exploded in Alvas College. Panambur ACP Ravikumar, Moodabidre SI Ramesh Kumar with other police personnel reached Alvas college. The premise of Alvas college and the people around are being closely watched.

The parents of the students studying in Alvas college got into tizzy after hearing the news of terrorist threat. President of Alvas educational institution, Dr. Mohan Alva and other officers and staff are contionously getting phone calls from the relatives and parents of the students. There are more than 18,000 students studying in the institution. Facility of sending bulk messages was provided to send messages to the relatives of the students.

Dr. Mohan Alva has cleared that there is no one named Abdul Khader studying in Alvas institution. Anyhow the list of old students will be checked he said.

Arrest in five minutes:
Efforts are on to spread terror through social media. As the modern technologies developed our defense system too has to be developed. The system of arresting the people who spread terror on social media has to be developed. Otherwise it will be difficult to face these problems in the future said Dr. Mohan Alva.

Security has been increased in Alvas campus. Parents of the students need not worry. The security in Alvas college is always very high he added.

Private bus Knocks down bike: woman dies

Moodabidre: A woman died as a speeding private bus knocked down the bike on which she was travelling. The incident happened in front of the petrol pump near Tahashildar office on Saturday afternoon December 27. The deceased woman has been identified as Kusuma (36) wife of Shrikanth, resident of Kanakabettu in Mijar.

She was moving on a bike rode by her husband Shrikanth (42) from Mijar to Moodabire . The private bus named `Reshma’ which was speeding from Mangaluru to Moodabidre knocked down the bike near petrol pump in front of tahashildar office. Kusuma was thrown on the road and sustained injuries on her head. Shrikanth also sustained injuries. The injured were admitted to private hospital in Mangaluru. But Kusuma succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Shrikanth owns printing press, Ananta printers in Ganjimutt.

It is learnt that the same bus almost collided with a car in its previous trip. A case has been filed in Moodabidre police station.

Heart touching moment: Physically disabled man marries blind girl

Moodabidre: In a heart touching moment a physically disabled man married a blind girl setting an example in front of the society.

The bride was Revathy, third daughter of Dooja Moolya and Vasanti. She was blind but that didn’t stop Laxman, physically disabled man who is paralyzed below the waist from marrying her.

The marriage ceremony was held at Shri Satyanarayana temple in Borugudde here on Monday December 15. The marriage rituals were performed by Satyanarayana Tantri.

Municipal member Jayanth Hegde, Santosh Kumar, Uday Poojary, Samith Raj Daregudde, Narayana Semina, Ramesh Borugudde, Satish Tailor were present.

Pickup van topples into the courtyard of the house

Moodabidre: A pick up van toppled in to the courtyard of a house located near the Mangaluru-Moodabidre national highway in Handelu on the wee hours of Tuesday December 16.

The pickup van belonged to Ocean DJ Sounds of Neermarga was returning to Mangaluru from a function in Bajagoli near Karkala. A generator was loaded on the backside of the van. At around 5am when the van reached Handelu the generator started moving to the left side of the pickup. Due to this driver of the van Lawrence D’Souza lost control of the vehicle and the van toppled in to the courtyard of the house.

Tej, who was sitting behind the van sustained injuries in the incident. The veranda and the tiles of the house are damaged. As it was early hours of the day no luckily one was in the veranda.

Shop lifter arrested in Vidyagiri: 6 mobiles recovered

Moodabidre: Police arrested shop lifter near Swaraj Maidan (ground) here on Monday December 15. The accused had stolen 6 mobile phones from a shop in Vidyagiri here.

The arrested person has been identified as Sunil (21) native of Khushinagar in Uttarpradesh. The accused had broke opened the shutter of the mobile shop on Saturday night and decamped with 6 mobile phone worth Rs. 42,000.

Police lodged a case as per the complaint given by Mohammed Ashraf. On Monday as circle inspector Ananthapadmanabh and SI Ramesh Kumar were patrolling with their police team, the accused who was standing near Swaraj ground,tried to run away from the police. He was holding a black bag. Police nabbed him and when questioned the accused had spilled the bean. Later the police seized the mobile phones from him.

It is said that Sunil was working as an electrician in various construction sites in Moodabidre.
