16th Annual Rotary Orphanage Olympics held in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: ‘Everyone is equal in this society, hence equal opportunities should be provided to all. Organising this type of sports and cultural events exclusively for the orphanage children by the Rotary club is commendable’, opined A.B. Ibrahim, Dy. Commissioner of D.K. Dist. after inaugurating the ‘16th Annual Rotary Orphanage Olympics’ organised by the Rotary club of Mangaluru Central on Sunday November 30 at Ramakrishna P.U. College Grounds.

 

President of the Bantara Yane Nadavara Sangha Ajit Kumar Rai Malady speaking as a Chief Guest revealed that it is a day of fun and joy for the children who are deprived of parental love and affection and it is a celebration and jubilation for them and the society always support them, he added. Rotary Dist Asst Governor Rtn. Sathish Bolar in his address, it is a rare opportunity and a platform provided by the Rotary club for exhibiting the hidden sporting skills and cultural talents of the children and to enter the main stream.

 

Chairman of the Organising Committee Rtn. Dr. Devdas Rai revealed that the club is organising this event as a part of their club’s community development activities for the last 16 years in succession and 600 children from 10 different orphanages of the city are participating in this event. Rtn. Santhosh Shet presided over the function. On this occasion, Indian Academy of Pediatrics, D.K. Branch conducted a free medical check-up camp for the children and distributed free medicines under the leadership of President Dr. Shivaram Rai.

 

Rtn. K.M. Hegde compeered the programme. Rotaract Club of Mangalore City President Rtr. Prasad Kumar proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Bhaskar Shetty, Dr. Ashwij Shriyan, Rtn. Rajgopal Rai, Rtn. Naveen Kumar, Rtr. Anil Shetty were present on this occasion. After the children’s march past, they actively participated in various sporting events which was supervised by Rtn. Ravi Jalan. This event was organised by Rotary Club of Mangalore Central in association with Rotaract Club of Mangalore City and Indian Academy of Pediatrics, D.K. Branch.
