Drunk private bus driver thrashed by passengers after road accident

Mangaluru: A speeding private bus rammed into at least three cars and four bikes, injuring four persons including a girl at Shivbhag, Kadri here on Sunday.
Subsequently, the public chased the driver, who was trying to flee and thrashed him. The people claimed that the bus driver was drunk which led to the accident. Later the bus driver identified as Ambrose Paul of Benjanpadavu told the police that he tried applying brake, but in vain. “I alerted the passengers and simultaneously did all I could to escape from collision. I thought the tyre was punctured but later realized that the vacuum brake of the bus was broken”, he said.
As a result, the driver lost control of the bus, ‘Vinayananda’ – plying between State Bank to Adyar and rammed into a series of vehicles including three cars and four two wheelers.
The passengers in all the three cars escaped from any casualties. While, four persons including a girl suffered injuries. Girl’s head was bleeding, when she was rushed to the hospital, eye witness said. All the seven vehicles have been damaged.
However, Mark Periera, one of the car owners whose vehicle was damaged in the incident blamed the bus driver of negligence and rash driving.
Mangaluru East Traffic Police said that they will examine if the bus driver was drunk at the time of the incident or whether it is due to mechanical defect.
