Surathkal: The national highway connecting Panvel in Maharashtra with Kochi in Kerala was renamed as NH66 in April 2011. Earlier the highway was called NH17. It’s been three years since the name of highway which connects major states like Maharashtra, Goa, Karnatka and Kerala has been changed. But the name board still holds the name NH17. Nobody has bothered to change the name board.
The two name boards located on both side of the road in Surathkal leaves people in confusion as in one board the road is mentioned as NH66 and in the other as NH17. This is not the only board which gives wrong information to the travelers. More than three-four boards installed from NITK to Udupi have the same mistakes.
The travelers who are new to the region get confused with the mistakes of the district administration and the highway authority. The highway work is also incomplete in many places which is a big problem for vehicle goers, adding more trouble to this is the name plates with different information.
