Surathkal: The dredging work in Baggundi rivulet in Kulai near here has commenced on Sunday November 30. Various social organizations including Kulai Nagarika Samiti and locals participated in the initiative of cleaning the Baggundi pond.

JCB was used for dredging and efforts were made to clean the water of the rivulet. It’s been a long pending demand of the locals and various organizations to clean Baggundi. Due to the weed and vegetarians grown on the rivulet had led to the stopping of fish catching fair which was a popular fair of the region.

The fish catching fair attracts thousands of people from around the district and people used to prepare variety of dishes from fishes caught here. Due to polluted water the fish species has declined in Baggundi rivulet which had forced to stop the fair.
