Sexual harassment case on Auto driver who tried to save woman

Udupi: Sexual harassment case was filed against an auto driver who tried to save the life of a woman who suddenly tried to cross the road. The incident happened in Katapady on Thursday November 20. Illyas Ibrahim, his wife, Fatimat Zohara, and the couple's child, residents of Mallaru near Katapadi had hired an auto rickshaw to travel to Sarkari Gudde. Dinesh the driver of the auto suddenly applied break as a woman suddenly came across his vehicle. In the procedure Fatimat and her child sustained injury. A motor bike following this three wheeler also hit the auto rickshaw as a result. When the driver was speaking to the bike rider, Illyas and his friend, Altaf, who was at the spot, allegedly took a task on Dinesh, holding him responsible for causing injuries to the two.
Dinesh then got admitted into the district hospital and a complaint was filed against Illyas and Altaf. Police later arrested the duo. Fatimat Zohara filed a counter case saying that Dinesh was responsible for causing injuries to her and her child. She said that Dinesh had pulled her and her child out of the auto and caused injuries to them.
On learning about the incident Auto rickshaw drivers from Katapadi, stopped operation of auto rickshaws on Friday afternoon at Katapadi. The drivers, who gathered in front of Katapadi police outpost, warned of organizing stronger protest if the said false complaint is not withdrawn. Some local leaders, leaders of the drivers, and police held a meeting. The auto rickshaw drivers said they had withdrawn the stir based on an assurance given by the police, and said they would resume stronger methods of protest if the false complaint is pursued.
