23 year old MIT student hangs himself to death.

Manipal: Nov 4: A post-graduate student of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) committed suicide by hanging himself in his rented house here on Monday.  The police said Abhijeet R (23) from Bagalkot district, who was doing his first-year M.Tech in Structural Engineering at MIT, ended his life at Purshotham Nagar behind MGM College grounds.

P Rajendra Prasad, Superintendent of Police, said Abhijeet had left behind a note addressed to his parents, who are both doctors, that said he was ending his life because he was facing a lot of tension regarding his studies. He said his younger brother would take care of the parents.

“We have checked his college records. He was a brilliant student with good attendance. He used to speak little. We have also spoken to his roommate Sripad. As per our information so far, there appears to be no campus pressure on him,” Mr. Prasad said.

The body of the student had been shifted to the mortuary of the Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. “The post mortem would be taken up on Tuesday morning. We expect his parents to arrive here by that time,” Mr. Prasad said.

Madhu T.S., Sub Inspector of Udupi Town Police Station, said that Abhijeet had not attended the college on Monday. It was only after his roommate came home in the evening that the suicide came to light, he said. A case had been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station and investigations were on, the police said.
