DK becomes first in State to implement Jan Dhan Yojna

Mangaluru: The district has achieved remarkable progress in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), and stands first in the state.

Dakshina Kannada district is the first district in the state to have at least one Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account for all families.

Addressing media persons on November 7, Friday, the Deputy commissioner A.B Ibrahim said, “Banks in our district opened over 1.64 lakh accounts during the campaign. According to the 2011 census, the district has over 4.39 lakh households and at least one in the family now has a bank account."

The campaign started on August 28, 2014 in the district. Around 25 banks actively took part in this campaign.

A.B Ibrahim also said that this achievement will be officially declared after it is approved by State Level Implementation Committee of PMJDY.

As per the guidelines of department of financial service, banks are required to cover each and every household with a minimum of one bank account by January 26, 2015.
