Surathkal assault on beautician: Motive was snatching gold chain

Surathkal: Police said that the motive of the accused behind the brutal assault on Akshata, a beautician in Surabhi beauty parlour here was robbing the gold chain. The incident took place on Friday October 31 at around 10am near Kantheri Doomavathy temple in Surathkal. Public chased down the attackers and caught them near Nataraj theatre and after giving them a good beatings they were handed over to the police. Akshata (20) resident of Krishnapur sustained serious injuries on her head and was admitted to a private hospital.

 The accused have been identified as Sandeep Kumar (34) and Sumana (26) both from Rajasthan. The accused were said to be couple and they came to Goa from Rajasthan for work. Bothe of them lost job and few days back they reached Baikampady in search of job. They were staying in a lodge here.

As they emptied all the money they had, the couple decided to earn money in unlawful way. On Friday, the couple zeroed in on Akshata who was alone in the parlour. Sumana went inside the parlour asking for a facial while Sandeep was stopped by Akshata outside the shop. But later Sandeep entered the shop to pay the money and instead attacked Akshata with iron rod and knife. Sumana also joined him in the attack and tried to snatch the gold chain from her neck. Akshata resisted and in the fight the gold chain cut into pieces and fell on the ground. Locals quickly responded to the incident and rushed Akshata to a nearby hospital and grabbed the attacked couple. They were later handed over to the police. The incident took place in the early morning of Friday which shook the region for a while.
