Faulty road work claims lives of two youth in Chokkabettu
Surathkal: Two youths died on the spot near Chokkabettu here on Saturday night December 27. The deceased have been identified as Deepak Shetty and Nikhil (21). Nikhil was the resident of Krishnapur here. The unscientific road work of Chokkabettu interior road which leads to Doomavathy temple is said to be the reason for the gruesome accident which killed the youth.

The duo was riding on a bike but they were unable to notice an edge formed due to the construction of concrete road in the region. The road workers had filled mud on the edge of the road near the house of Mangaluru north MLA Mohiudiin Bava where the construction ends instead of making it a little slant, so that the vehicles can pass easily. As a result the speeding bike hit the edge and toppled. The riders were thrown on the road and were died on the spot.

Locals blame road contractors for their negligence in the construction work. Many minor accidents have taken place in this region due to the faulty road work, but no one was worried about that, this has led to the death of two youths.
