Mangaluru: The Jokatte Nagarika Horata Samithi which has been organizing series of protests for the shut down of coke and sulphur unit in MRPL premises has accused that MRPL has slapped false case against its 17 leaders to curb the strong opposition of the Jokatte residents.
Addressing the press meet on Friday, 26 December in the city, leader of the organization BS Husain said "The MRPL is using police and the government against people. In Surathkal and Panambur police stations false cases have been slapped against 17 frontline leaders of the organization which is an attempt to curb the fight to stop the Coke and the Sulphur units."
"Every company has to follow few guidelines when it comes to the transportation of the products and disposal of pollutants. But MRPL has violated all the norms by spilling the coke balls on the road and letting the waste to the water sources of the surroundings. If questioned the bouncers of MRPL along with the police threaten the locals."
"The government and the district administration has not responded to the plea's of the locals. Rather it is supporting the MRPL which is polluting the horizon by the production of poisonous Benzene and other chemicals and it is self acclaimed by the company officials in the disaster management review meeting. And hence the time has come to fight against the district administration itself”, he added.
Muneer Kaatipalla, PV Rao, Santosh Bajal were among the present at the occasion.
